About
The Cat Lady became a gun owner in January 2025, at the age of fifty-one. She is one of the many new, non-traditional gun owners trying to stay safe from harm in a country teetering on the brink of fascism.
The Cat Lady has come to believe in guns as a tool for self-defense, only to be used "in the gravest extreme" (to quote longtime gun writer and educator Massad Ayoob).
The Cat Lady supports the Second Amendment. She has come to agree with Constitutional Carry, the legality of "AR-style" weapons, etc. (How she came to these conclusions is A Long Story that she may one day blog about.)
The Cat Lady is a fan of Active Self Protection founder John Correia and particularly admires his approach to gun ownership. She agrees with Mr. Correia's opinion that all of us who keep and bear arms have a duty to behave as "good, sane, sober, moral, and prudent" people.
The Cat Lady is socially liberal, in the sense that she fervently believes in LGBTQ+ rights. The Cat Lady is fiscally conservative, in the sense that she thinks government (like all of us) needs to live within its means.
The Cat Lady is skeptical of utopian schemes. True believers, ideological purists, religious fundamentalists, doctrinaire anarchists and pie-in-the-sky socialists freak her out! She's uncomfortable with the idea that there's only "one, true path". If you think you have stumbled onto The Answer and that you have the right to force The Answer onto other people, she'll slowly back away from you.
Personally, The Cat Lady has one foot in religion and one foot out.
The Cat Lady only owns one cat. By some definitions, this may mean that she's not actually that much of a cat lady. (The title implies cat hoarding, which The Cat Lady has never done.) But, be honest, would you have stopped by here if the site was called "Cat Owner with a Gun"?
