Taurus Sends My Revolver Back! (But then the Rossi Rifle's Front Sight Falls Off)

So, on Tuesday my revolver arrived back from the Taurus warranty repair shop in Bainbridge, Georgia. It was out of my custody for around thirty-nine days. (A lot better than the ninety days the FFL told me to expect.)

In the immediate aftermath of getting the gun back, I wondered if I might have been too hasty in my condemnation of the company. After all, it turned out they weren't that backed up with repairs. (Or maybe they were and loudly complaining on the Internet helped move things along.) But the main point is, I got the gun back! And it does indeed appear to be fixed! And they honored their warranty! The whole thing cost me nothing!

Mind you, I still planned to sell the revolver to a gun shop. (I no longer had faith in the thing.) But I did start to wonder if I might have rushed to judgement.

Then, on Friday morning, while I was making my inaugural attempt at small game hunting with my Rossi RS22, the front sight fell off. (Reminder: Rossi and Taurus are owned by the same parent company and both run their American operations from the Bainbridge, Georgia offices.)

How on Earth did the front sight fall off? Well, I had put a gun sock over the barrel to prevent forest debris from getting into it during the long hike out to the hunting site I had picked out. When I took the gun sock off, the sight was no longer on the rifle!

Fortunately, I was able to find it. It was inside the gun sock. And I was able to reattach it, too. But, for me, that was the last straw. Any good will Taurus had earned back from returning my revolver in a semi-prompt fashion was totally erased when the damned sight fell off that .22 rifle.

Friday afternoon, I dropped by a local sporting goods store and sold them the revolver and rifle. Then, I went to another store and bought the small game rifle I should have bought in the first place: a Ruger 10/22 Carbine.

So, yeah, Taurus still sucks. Don't buy their crap. Stick with more reputable companies (Smith & Wesson and Ruger are two I've found trustworthy, so far.)
